Difference between SUV and 4x4

I don't actually know that much about cars myself. I was just wondering what the difference was between a SUV and a 4x4. Thanks in advance.

There isn't really much of a difference. Here are a couple of definitions that I found:

SUV - a high-performance four-wheel drive car built on a truck chassis

4 x 4 - Vehicle transmission system in which engine power is applied to all four wheels

yeh, no real diference, but my family owns a 4x4 (pajero) its a good car, gets us out of pot hols, and works reasonably well out bush, so i think that 4x4's are more "go out into the bush and find a place to stack" type thing

i have no car.... but im getting my pilots licence, so thats all good

Arent SUV's also a lot bigger than 4x4 in most cases?
I know some of those Fords are massive.. almost like trucks.

I dont like SUV's

Those huge monster trucks, people drive them around the suburbs!
Fair enough if you're going out bush or to the country, but driving those tanks around a shopping center should be illegal!
