IF You Drive A Hummer, You Ain't Helpin'

"AOL's popular Autoblog site has a post in which they cite stats listing the 2006 vs. 2005 sales statistics for most major automobile brands.

In terms of sales, the fastest-increasing brand is HUMMER. From 2005 to 2006, sales were up 24.30% at 71,524 (2005: 56,727).

I hate Hummers. Not only are they guzzlers but they instantly brand you as an "I'm bad" militaristic freak- kind of like the meth dealer busted with four angry pit bulls in his pad.

OK, so you think you are so macho, Hummer-owner? Tell me what country the gasoline in your Hummer probably came from, and where most of the 9-11 hijackers came from?

Bingo.

And if that question makes you boil, well, how about you or someone you know signing up and becoming part of the Iraq troop "surge" Bush thinks he needs to fight the terrorists over there so they don't fight us over here?

But maybe you are busy today, out and about in balmy weather likely precipitated by the cumulative effects of global warming. And your Hummer ain't helping.

Just be thankful you aren't a polar bear looking for ice, ice, baby- Like in some of Robert Winslow's wonderful polar bear photos.

I'd like to interject some commentary here by "jonaspdx," one of my fellow Bloggers on the Portland Metroblog:

Did no one see (and believe) An Inconvenient Truth? Does no one remember that we're at war (one that some would say was over oil) and maybe, just maybe, conservation is a good idea, no matter how much the president tells you to drive big cars or go shopping?

I can't believe they allow these things to be passenger vehicles at all, and I'm hoping (most likely to no avail, as there are far more pressing things to take care of first) that one of the actions of our new Congress over the next few years might be to eliminate the tax loophole that actually makes buying these beasts a tax deduction if it's bought for business use or at least make the CAFE standards apply to large vehicles, which they currently do not.

Yea, I know, we Portlanders are liberal. But lookit. Plenty of Hummer drivers and unseasonably warm temperatures throughout the U.S.

You're right, jonaspdx.

Yea, I know I am part of the problem. But not as much as you. I drive a car, too. But mine is kinder, gentler, not a chariot of a warrior than your beast. "

I saw this article that condemns hummer driver, cause it uses up too much gasoline. Im not sure what to make of this..what do you all think? Are we selfish bastards?

Hummers have their own purposes, like other cars. We can't drive a volkswagen up a torturous 45 degree mountain road at 100 kph (or more if the driver is suicidal). Its bad rep may esteem from its original use, but a lot of humanitarian and environmental organizations also rely on the humvee to get to their destinations.

Regarding the gas guzzling issue, there are other trucks-car out there with a similar appetite. Americans love big cars and the older models are as bad as the new humvees. And everybody uses gas from the middleast. So if that really is an issue, why don't we just ride a bike or walk everywhere, like what I do. It's environment-friendly, saves on gas, and gives you a good workout.

What if the Hummer will be converted to use biofuels? What would they say next? It's bad for the farm lands? Why won't they just admit that they are GREEN WITH ENVY?

I know this is an old post but I registered to reply.

The most wonderful (liberal tree hugging) auto out there is the Toyota Preiss (I won't spell it right because it doesn't deserve a credit) gets outstanding gas mileage.

Guess what?

The environmental footprint for the vehicle is $2.87 cents a mile.

The environmental footprint for the H3 is $2.02 a mile.

How can this be? I will tell you. To make the battery in that car ore is mined for nickle, (what a mess that makes) smelted, (there goes the air) then (we won't discuss the chemicals involved for all the acids and such) then shipped to 5 different countries before the U.S. The car won't (the battery) last even 75,000 miles.

The H3 uses gas but is engineered to last 300,000 miles (that's right folks) and gets 15-19 miles to the gallon with the automatic trainee.

Some people are just plum dumb and haven't a clue.

So H3'ers lets

Exclamation

I think that people who hate something of another, are just miserable becasue the rest of the world doesn't believe in the same values as them.

If you can't tolerate something that others like or believe in, then you should kill yourself!

Oh wait. They already do!
Disregard last.

Hummer B.S.

Yes, I drive a Hummer H3. Yes, I like it. Yes, I think the anti-pile of bull sh*t is just that. Someone has to complain about everything. They do not need to even know what they are talking about, they just want to be noticed.
I keep hearing about Hummer are gas guzzlers, so I checked up on a few things. My H3 gets the same milage as my Ford Heritage F-150 did, 18-19 mpg. Anyone bashing the Ford's? The Chevrolet Suburban will not even post their mpg. Anyone bashing Chevrolet? The big Cadillac is the same way. Anyone bashing the Cadillac? Why then is the Hummer H3 such a bad mother? Mine cost less then an new F-150. I would not own a Chevrolet and I do not like Cadillac. Let me spend my money as I want to and I'll let you do the same. I'll keep my Hummer and you can go get your small gas-ozone-saver and I'll just ignore the small speed bump you make when I run over your ass.
