Unfortunately, even if you write "check ID" on the back of your credit cards, many store clerks don't bother. The problem is that these companies (e.g. stop & shop, wall-mart, etc.) don't care about your identity, and know people will continue to do business with them if they hire incompetent clerks without proper training.
